Insulin glargine is a long-acting, synthetic version of human insulin used to treat hyperglycemia in type 1 and 2 diabetes. It's injected subcutaneously, usually once a day, and works slowly over about 24 hours. It's sold under the brand names Lantus, Basaglar, Toujeo, Semglee, and Rezvoglar. Insulin glargine helps the body convert food into energy by using blood glucose for immediate energy and storing energy for later use.
